We are proud to launch the first phase of the airport art initiatives for 2011 with

 
THE SCULPTURE GARDEN

The AiR ART Committee conducts this Open Entry Call for Sculptures in order to select original works for a permanent display.

Where

Located at the new U.S.A. departure plaza, currently under construction, due to be finalized in September 2011.

The sculptures will be in a public area, highly visible to the departing US passengers and for the locals visiting the restaurants and stores.
A collection of a maximum of 10-12 sculptures will be placed in the garden due to space limitations.

Requirements for participants:

  • Participants must be born on Aruba or currently residing in Aruba for the past five years. Members of the AiR ART committee may apply but do not have rights of vote on their own submission.
  • The proposal must contain a written narrative that effectively explains their project concept.
  • The artist’s proposal must provide an accurate and feasible budget, inclusive of all expenses, such as artists design fee, transportation costs, materials, installation and also include a maintenance plan for proper care of the art work.
  • The proposal must contain a timetable for fabrication and installation.
  • The artist must provide a successful track record of construction and installation or show that an appropriate professional has examined the proposed artwork and confirmed feasibility of construction and installation.

Criteria for the art works:

  • The artwork must fit in the AiR ART vision.
  • The artwork must be appropriate for the location: it must be clearly visible from a distance and must be maintenable in the climate of Aruba.
  • Minimum dimensions: 80 cm height, 50 cm width. Maximum dimensions: 200 cm height, 100 cm width.
  • The art work must be an original, and is not allowed to be replicated in Aruba, no ready-mades will be accepted.
  • The art work must be able to be affixed to a permanent base.
  • The art work must be of aesthetic and artistic quality: the artist should demonstrate an innovative, contemporary and creative approach and display a high quality of craftsmanship.
