Successful 1st Construction Fair

In light of Aruba Airport’s Gateway 2030 project:

Successful 1st Construction Fair

ORANJESTAD – On Thursday, November 29th, Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) organized the 1st Construction Fair for the airport’s Gateway 2030 Construction Project at the ballroom of the Hilton Hotel. The event was organized as part of the preparation for the tendering process for the construction of the main terminal expansion, which is scheduled to begin in late February. The main goal of the fair was to introduce prospective international construction firms to the business community and government leadership in Aruba, in an effort for international construction firms to get familiar with doing business in Aruba, and ensure that local companies play a significant role in the construction work scheduled to take place over the next few years.

The event opening took place with a speech by the Prime Minister of Aruba, Mrs. Evelyn Wever-Croes, who outlined the importance of the Gateway 2030 project for the future growth of the island, and for the country’s economy. Her Excellency was followed by the Minister of Spatial Development, Infrastructure, and Environment Mr. Otmar Oduber, who further stated how important sustainability, green building methods, and responsible growth are paramount for the island’s success. The opening was followed by a detailed presentation on the main elements of the project, a presentation on Aruba’s tax codes and procedures, as well as participation from DPL and Economic Affairs; and concluded with a networking session, where international and local companies were given the opportunity to exchange information and contacts for future collaboration on the project.

A total of 13 international construction firms attended the fair and had the opportunity to connect with 55 local contractors, suppliers and vendors who attended the fair.

Also present was BEUMER Group, the provider of the airport’s new baggage handling system, and international construction company Ballast Nedam, who was recently awarded the contract with AAA to build the airport’s new utility plant, and main security gate building, and oversee the relocation of the airport’s main utility systems. This project also involves AWM/ JAJO, along with local subcontractors Bopel, CHS, and Robertson.

“We are confident that the Construction Fair was a successful tool for local and international construction companies to meet and engage each other in forming important new partnerships, and achieve the necessary balance of international and local expertise needed to execute a large and complex construction project,” said AAA CEO Mr. James Fazio.
